UPDATE FOR FEB. 26, 2009:

Hangar Building
The first phase of the concrete flooring will be poured on Monday.

Buildings 14/16 Breezeway (a.k.a. East Breezeway)
Construction of the front façade is still in progress. Steel beams for the Breezeway ceiling will be delivered by next week and installation will begin as early as Thursday of next week.

New Administration Building
The concrete floor has been poured; Now, Weeger Bros. will begin installing the framing of the building. Fabrication and other design aspects are in progress offsite. In the next 5 to 6 weeks, the building will begin to resemble the final structure. Crews will also begin building the block wall that will separate the building from Arlington Drive traffic.

Old Administration Building
The east trailers have been moved out. Demolition of the main building has been postponed until next week to allow the Costa Mesa Fire Department the unique opportunity to conduct emergency rescue training in an actual two-story building.

Miscellaneous: As a part of the Green Gate Extension Project, existing islands will be removed in Lot P and replaced with new islands with elm trees from Festival Fields to the Green Gate patron entrance. The Lot P project begins next week and ends mid-March. Contractors will rebuild the deteriorating retaining wall on the first base side (stage right) of Pacific Amphitheatre’s backstage area. The demolition of fencing between Gate 1 (main gate) and Gate 2 (Vanguard) will be completed this week. Next, contour elevations with the addition of soil will be added and new irrigation lines will be laid.

UPDATE FOR FEB. 19, 2009:

Hangar Building
The underground infrastructure is being completed. Next week, the concrete floor will be poured on the north end of the site.

Buildings 14/16 Breezeway (a.k.a. East Breezeway)
The lateral block walls are complete. The second phase of utilities is being routed through the new walls to connect the two buildings and the new breezeway. Scaffolding is being installed to construct walls as part of the unified design for the front of Buildings 14 and 16 and the breezeway. A concrete pour is also pending for the floor.

New Administration Building
Trenches have been dug and filled to provide water to the new building. Next, trenches will be dug for the electrical. Next week, Weeger Bros. will complete the concrete pour for the flooring.

Old Administration Building
Staff has completely moved out of the building and demolition crews have moved in. The newer doors and windows have been removed and will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. The east trailer is set to be moved out by the end of next week.

Miscellaneous: At the end of this month, reconfiguration of Lot P will begin and will include the addition of small islands with elm trees. Next week, the fencing and landscaping from Gate 1 (main gate) to Gate 2 (Vanguard) will be demolished and upgraded to match the design concept along the Fairview Road side with grassy knolls replacing the current fencing.

UPDATE FOR FEB. 6, 2009:

Buildings 14/16 Breezeway (a.k.a. East Breezeway)
The lateral block walls will be completed this week. Installation of the canopies over the front entrances of both buildings has begun.

New Administration Building
Potholing for the electrical unit and prep for the gas line that will run underground from Pacific Amphitheatre to the site will begin Feb. 16 and is expected to last from a week and a half to two weeks.

Old Administration Building
Removal of the east wing trailer and abatement of environmentally sensitive materials will begin Feb. 16, after staff has been completely moved into their temporary locations. Construction fencing will be set-up around key areas by Feb. 13.

Miscellaneous: Palm trees will be added at the Merrimac Gate. The campground road will temporarily be widened to accommodate event needs. Trailers for staff displaced by the old Administration Building demolition have arrived and will be ready for move-ins by this week.

UPDATE FOR JAN. 29, 2009:

Hangar Building
The underground infrastructure and footings will be completed this week. Next, crews will pour the concrete slab for the floor.

Buildings 14/16 Breezeway (a.k.a. East Breezeway)
The underground infrastructure and footings are near completion. The canopies for the front of Buildings 14 and 16 are currently being constructed and will be delivered next week.

New Administration Building
The underground infrastructure and the concrete floor slab will be installed by mid-February.

Old Administration Building
The telecom hub for the fairgrounds has been relocated and upgraded from underground in the area. OCFEC crews will now start the mobilization and by the middle of February, crews will start demolition of the east trailer and the main body of the building.

Note: The receptionist and meeting room will temporarily be housed in a trailer in front of the west end trailer. Guests and visitors are asked to check-in here unless otherwise instructed.

Community Relations has moved to the Silo Building. Business Services, Purchasing and Human Resources have moved to trailers between the Farm and Pacific Amphitheatre.

Miscellaneous: OCFEC crews are finishing the interior of the Park Plaza restrooms. Irrigation has been installed and a steel roof, similar to the existing room on the silo, will be installed. This steel roof design will be used on three other restroom sites which will be added at various locations of the property at a later date.

UPDATE FOR JAN. 22, 2009:

Hangar Building
Two major concrete pours have been completed for the third phase of the structural footings.

Buildings 14/16 Breezeway (a.k.a. East Breezeway)
Temporary concrete walkways will be installed this week to provide larger patron entrances through the front of Buildings 14 and 16. Crews are continuing to install the block walls on the sides.

Old Administration Building
Staff has begun to move into temporary locations. A trailer is parked south of the building to house the front desk (Reception) and a meeting room. The hallway and stairs between the original building and the temporary west trailer have been removed and is being trenched for utility lines.

UPDATE FOR JAN. 15, 2009:

Hangar Building
Twelve truckloads (approximately 120 yards) of concrete will be poured in the third phase of the new building’s structural footings.

Buildings 14/16 Breezeway (a.k.a. East Breezeway)
Next week footings for the west façade will be added and then light concrete will be poured for temporary walkways, which will provide full-access entrances through the front of Buildings 14 and 16.

Old Administration Building
Staff will begin moving out of the eastern portion of the current building. Affected departments will be temporarily housed in a variety of current buildings and rented trailers until the new Administration Building is complete. Demolition of the majority of the current building is slated to begin mid-February.

Miscellaneous: New barrier gates will be installed at Gates 1 (Fair Dr.) and 10 (Newport Blvd.) to match the style added to Gates 2 (Vanguard) and 3 (Merrimac). As part of the new decorative lighting concept, the change-out of the final light pole on Livestock Lane has been completed. The Park Plaza restroom renovation is expected to be completed by the second week of February.

UPDATE FOR JAN. 8, 2009:

Hangar Building
The concrete has been completed for the structural footings.

Buildings 14/16 Breezeway (a.k.a. East Breezeway)
Footings will be installed to support the front west fascade. The lateral block walls are expected to be completed by the second week of February.

New Administration Building
The Weeger Bros. are turning the soil over to dry it out. By the second week of February, the OCFEC staff is expected to break ground to deliver underground utilities to the site.

Old Administration Building
The current Administration Building will be demolished in sections and affected staff will periodically be moved to temporary offices until the new building is completed. Staff is working on a plan to ensure that regular business is not adversely affected during this transitional phase. The east wing of the current building is the first section slated to be removed.
