What's the difference between a Guided and a Self-Guided
tour?
Guided tours are reserved for Kindergarten through third grade.
We offer two tour appointment times on guided days, one at 9 a.m. and
one at 11 a.m. Tours last approximately 1½ hours. On a guided tour
kids are taken around the animal pens and crop areas. During their tour,
kids get to plant radishes, hold a chick, and learn all about how agriculture
is incorporated into their daily lives.
Self-guided tours are reserved for pre-schools, home schools, and other
specialty groups. Self-guided tours are run 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and groups are free to walk around the farm at their
own pace. The self-guided tour is essentially the same as the guided tour,
but instead of the children being guided by a docent, the teachers guide
the kids to the different stations where docents await.
The self-guided tour day was created to accommodate the needs
of pre-schools, home schools, and other specialty groups. Since the tour
is self-guided, it allows teachers to assess what length of tour and depth
of information will best suit the needs of their children. We have found
this works best due to ages and age ranges of the specified groups.
