Once again it
is summer
and in
Southern California
that only means
one thing: the
annual OC Fair is
right around the
corner. The
extraordinary staff
of the Orange
County Fair & Exposition Center have
spent that last 11 months planning for what
can only be described as one of the most
popular attractions of the year. With close
to a million guests expected as we celebrate
our 113th annual Fair, July 8 - 31, this year
promises to be bigger, better and more
unforgettable than ever.
New this year, we have opened up the
Park Plaza, a new area on the site of what
was once the Little Theatre near Kids Park
and Kiddie Carnival. Park Plaza features
the Plaza Arts Stage that will host a range
of children’s activities during the day and
an eclectic blend of art and multicultural
attractions in the evenings. Highlights
include the Stars of the Peking Acrobats
and the Culinary Arts Series. The Peking
Acrobats, performing four times daily, are
the epitome of a rich and ancient folk art
tradition combined with the pageantry
and spectacle of a Chinese circus. The
Culinary Arts Series, which has moved from
Heritage Stage in the Main Mall, features
culinary demonstrations Thursdays at
5:30 p.m. by Alton Brown (July 14),
Curtis Aikens (July 21) and Dave
Lieberman (July 28).
Free entertainment is the main attraction
in the Citizens Business Bank Arena
with the return of Speedway motorcycle
racing, Demolition Derby, Bullriding,
Fiesta Del Charro, along with performances
by Carrot Top, Julio Sabala, and a week
of tribute bands.
The OC Fair Summer Concert Series
at Pacific Amphitheatre offers a wide
range of talent over 21 nights featuring
musical performances by superstars such
as Beck, Hilary Duff, the Steve Miller
Band, Julio Iglesias, LeAnn Rimes, Chris
Isaak and a night with blue-collar comedian
Bill Engvall.
And that is just the beginning. Come
for the carnival, the exhibits, the food, and
the entertainment. Come for the friends,
family and fun. The 2005 OC Fair, it’s
callin’ you out to play!
See you there.
