The 2005 OC Fair is offering two
great ways to help out the community
while getting into the Fair for free.
Both themed “It’s Callin’You Out To Give,”
the Canned Food Drive is scheduled for
Wednesday, July 20, and the Summer Book
Drive is Wednesday, July 27.
It’s time to raid your kitchen shelves
and help feed the hungry during the annual
Canned Food Drive on Wednesday,
July 20. From noon - 6 p.m., receive free
Fair admission with the donation of five
canned or dry food items. Last year, the
Fair received approximately 30,590
pounds of food from 5,987 fairgoers,
which provided meals for 61,180 Orange
County individuals through Second
Harvest Food Bank.
This year’s canned food drive is
sponsored by Star 98.7 FM.
Instead of throwing out those old
children’s books, bring them down to the
Summer Book Drive between noon - 6 p.m.
on Wednesday, July 27. By donating either
one new or three gently used children’s
books you will get free admission and a
free carnival ride, courtesy of Ray Cammack
Shows. The donated books will benefit
Orange County public elementary schools,
and each book will be matched by
Scholastic, Inc. In 2004, the Summer Book
Drive was an overwhelming success. A total
of 8,944 patrons donated 29,611 books.
This year’s book drive is presented by
the OC Fair and the Reading by 9 program
of the Los Angeles Times, and sponsored
by Radio Disney 1110 AM.
Also, visit any Orange County Barnes & Noble location during the month of
July and receive one Fair admission with
a children’s book donation to the CHOC
Summer Book Drive. See stores for
details. Fair admission is available while
supplies last.
