Pet Expo Takes Over OCFEC

They're coming! They're coming! The furry and the scaly. The miniature and the giant. The four-legged and the no-legged. The cute and the creepy.

Hundreds of animals will be invading the Orange County Fair & Exposition Center as a part of the 16th annual America's Family Pet Expo, April 15-17.

Hosted by the World Wide Pet Supply Association, Inc., a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting responsible pet care, the spring event is the world's largest pet and pet product expo which will feature animals, animal experts and a wide variety of pet products.

Over 1,000 animals will dazzle attendees in a variety of stage shows, demonstrations and competitions. Scheduled events include Splash Dogs, a contest to see which dog can dive the farthest in a pool; Joe Krathwohl's Exotic Bird Show, an act hailing from the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas with a juggling macaw and basketball playing black cockatoo; Snake Races, a contest where the fastest slither wins; and demonstrations where four-legged law enforcement officers show how they're protecting citizens.

Animal expert Warren Eckstein from NBC's "The Today Show" will broadcast his radio show live on Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Other favorites will be the Pet Adoption Fair presented by Petco Animal Supplies, Inc., the South Coast Dog Agility Team with high-energy obstacle courses, a kids aquarium contest, petting zoo, and pony rides.

This year organizers have added an exciting feature just for kids. Kids Korner will offer younger pet lovers interactive exhibits, such as The Pet Detective presented by Kids 'n' Pets, a reptile display from A Children's Living Nature Museum, craft projects with the Peacock Foundation, and animal-themed face painting.

Don't forget about the over 100 breeds of dogs, hundreds of cats, birds, fish, llamas, reptiles, pigs, rats, mice, goats, rabbits, miniature horses, sheep and exotic animals on hand.

Attendees are asked to leave their own beloved pets at home due to the large amount of exhibit animals on hand during the weekend event.

Parking is free. General admission is $10.00. Seniors 60 and older are $8.00. Children 6 to 12 are $4.00 and children 5 and under are free. On Friday, children 12 and under are free after 5:00 p.m. For more information, visit www.PetExpoOC.com.
