It’s
Fair time again, that special time of
year when it is all a-buzz at the Orange
County Fair & Exposition Center. It
is so rewarding for me to see the results
of the Fair staff’s hard work played
out over 21 days and nights. I don’t
think people realize that once one Fair
ends, work begins on the next Fair, making
it a year round project. I hope you’ll
all make time to join us for a day or
two as there will be a lot to see and
do.
Some
new events we’re really excited
about include the “Taste of the
Fair” at the Pacific Amphitheatre
on Thursday, July 8, the night before
the Fair officially opens. This will be
a great opportunity for everyone to come
out and see what this year's Fair has
to offer. We’ll have food, fireworks
and a special performance by The Fab Four
and Orange County’s Pacific Symphony.
And, it’s free for everyone. So
mark it on your calendars beginning at
7 p.m. and ending at approximately 8:45
p.m. Then on opening day, Friday July
9, we’ll have another wonderful
opportunity for fairgoers when we offer
free admission and parking for the Fair’s
opening hour from 10 to 11 a.m.
And finally, I want to mention another
event we’re really pleased about.
It is the Fair’s first Summer Book
Drive on Wednesday, July 28 from noon
to 6 p.m., sponsored by the Orange County
Fair and the Los Angeles Times’
Reading by 9 program. Anyone donating
a new children’s book or three gently
used children’s books will receive
free admission and one carnival ride.
All books will be donated to local Orange
County schools and matched by Scholastic
Books, Inc.
These are only a few of the special activities
planned for the Summer Fair. Unfortunately,
there just isn’t enough room to
mention all of the happenings at the Fair
such as the Pacific Amphitheatre Summer
Concert Series, the contests, exhibits,
food, pig races, petting zoos, etc. For
a full look at the Fair, you can visit
www.ocfair.com. I’m sure it will
entice you to visit the Fair again and
again. See you at the Fair!
