OC CHEESE A-FAIR CONTESTS
Location: OC Cheese A-Fair Contest Stage

Easy Cheesy Recipe Contest and Demonstration
So you make a killer cheese ball and you are ready to share your recipe with the world. This contest is perfect for you! Submit your unique, creative cheese recipe, using no more then seven ingredients, and that can be made quick and easy! Recipes will be chosen from 6 categories; Simple Salads, Easy Appetizers, Quick Main Dish, Speedy Snack, Fast Dessert, and Other Timely Cheese Item. Judges will be looking for recipes featuring cheese in a prominent way. Winners will demonstrate their recipe on stage during the fair.

Dates and Times: Prescheduled Demonstration Dates July 22 through August 3.

Awards: Trophy and Ribbon for 1st Place Winners.

Divisions:
Division I – ages 9-12.
Division II – ages 13-17.
Division III – ages 18 and up.

How to Enter and Rules:

  • The contestant must Enter by Friday, June 27. Download Entry Form (.pdf).
  • A maximum of 7 ingredients may be used in the recipe.
  • Recipes should be printed in “recipe format” listing quantity, ingredient followed by step by step instructions.
  • Winners will be notified July 7- July 9.
  • Winners will be asked to demonstrate their recipe on the OC Cheese A-Fair Contest Stage at a pre-scheduled demonstration date, July 22 through August 3.
  • Registered contestants will be given free fair admission for the their demonstration day.
  • Registered contestants must check in 30 minutes before their demonstration. at the OC Cheese A-Fair Contest Stage on demonstration date.
  • Ingredients and equipment will be provided to prepare winner recipes at demonstration time.
  • It must be possible to prepare and present recipe in under 30 minutes including cooking time.
  • Recipe will be judged on 30% taste and appeal, 30% creative use of cheese, 30% ease of preparation, 10% originality.
  • All recipes become property of the OC Fair and Event Center.
  • The OC Fair and Event Center has the right to publish or advertise the recipes and contestants names without compensation.
  • Limit 3 entries per person.

    The Big Cheese
    Do you have what it takes to be the Cheese Champion, the Sandwich King, the Big Cheese? We want to know, who is the best sandwich maker in the OC? Show us your professional best and do not hold the cheese.

    Dates and Times: Sunday, August 3, 3 p.m.

    Awards: Trophy for 1st. Ribbons for 1st-3rd. Participation Ribbons for All.

    Categories:
    Division I – Professional Cold Deli Sandwich with meat and cheese.
    Division II – Professional Hot Deli Sandwich with meat and cheese.
    Division III – Professional Cold All Cheese Sandwich.
    Division IV – Professional Hot All Cheese Sandwich.

    How to Enter and Rules:

  • The contestant must pre-register by Wednesday, July 9th. Download Entry Form.
  • Registered contestants will be given free fair admission for the contest.
  • Registered contestants must check in 2:30 p.m. at OC Cheese A-Fair Contest Stage on Sunday, August 3rd.
  • Contestants will provide the materials, supplies and any specialized equipment necessary to make one sandwich.
  • Sandwich must contain cheese.
  • Contestants have 25 minutes to prepare, plate and garnish entries.
  • Contestant will be judged on taste, appeal, originality, creative use of cheese and showmanship.
  • Space is limited and will be filled on a first come basis.

    Cheesy Costume Contest
    Does cheese pair with Fashion? But of course! Make and wear a cheese theme, or cheese enhanced costume, and wear it for this tasty contest. Be a part of the cheese culture, and show your cheese centric style!

    Dates and Times: Sunday, July 27, 3 p.m.

    Categories:
    Division I - Cheese Tot's ages 0-5.
    Division II - Queso Kid's ages 6-12.
    Division III  - Whey Cool Teens 13-17.
    Division IV - American Singles ages 18 and up.
    Division V - "Fromage a trois" for adult groups of three.
    Division VI  - "Aged But Still Sharp" for ages 55 and up.

    How to Enter and Rules:

      • The contestant must report to the contest stage in costume 10 minutes before scheduled contest start time.
      • Costumes will be judged on originality, creativity, use of theme.
      • No limit to participants, please do not eat your costume.
      Cheese Fondue, Hairdo
      Wear the cheese of the month in a fashionable style!  Hat's garnished in cheese, cheese colored hair, decorative cheesy hair accessories, and any creative way to show cheese on top. Curd heads you need not smear cheese on your tresses to participate, try a wig, cap, helmet, bonnet or something. Be cheesy, not insane.Dates and Times: Saturday, August 2, 3 p.m.Categories:

      Make silly sandwiches with funny faces. Try Googly Olive Eyes, How about tomato tongues, and lots of cheesey smiles. Bring a Cheese friend you created at home or make one from our supplies at the contest stage. Next you can teach your new friend to say cheese.Dates and Times:

      • We will accept entries created at home, however they must remain at the fair.
      • 20 minutes is allotted to create your cheese friend, if making it at contest stage.

Create and ‘wear your art’ to the OC Fair.  A fashion show will be held in the Fun Zone Tent at 2:30 so you can strut your style.  Items may include, but not be limited to:  shoes, socks, hats, jackets, shirts/blouses, jeans.       Are you a budding magician?  Do you like pulling things out of a hat?  Here’s a fun day to show your skills and learn a few new tricks.When: Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m.
      Check-in 30 minutes before performance time at the Fun Zone Tent Information DeskWho: Future magicians, ages 7-18, limit 10 minute performances.  You must pre-register by phone.  Call the Fun Zone contest hotline at (714) 708-1519 between July 22 and 25.  Leave your name, age and daytime phone number.  An admission ticket will be waiting for you at the will call booth located at the main gate (ask booth worker for “Future Magician’s” envelope.  Limited to the first 10 entries.
      Performance will be judged on difficulty, originality and creativity. Judging and awards ceremony immediately following the competition. You may use an assistant, background music and simple props.Where: Fun Zone StageSOMETHING SPECIAL:
