What’s new this year? Almost everything! OC Fair Youth Competitions are stronger than ever: sporting a new look, new energy, and many ways to show off your interests and talents.

Our goal is to encourage kids to grow their interests by participating in Fair competitions. So this year, we’re incorporating Youth displays right into the mainstream Floral, Visual Arts, Livestock, Home & Hob-bies and Fun Zone exhibit programs. Your entries will be showcased right alongside adult and profes-sional exhibits!

Who May Enter
The OC Fair youth program features activities for kids 3 to 18. Age-appropriate activities are grouped into three categories. Ready to have a great experience at the 2008 OC Fair? First, find your age category, then select the competition that is right for you. Make something great and bring it to the Fair!

Young Adults (13-18)
Juniors (9-12)
Blue Ribbon Kids (3-8)

Blue Ribbon Kids (ages 3-8)
The OC Fair offers a creative, positive learning environ-ment designed to nurture kids’ self-confidence. Rather than judge the entries of our littlest Fair participants, we applaud their ability to complete a project and bring a project to the Fair! All Blue Ribbon Kids entries are rec-ognized with ribbons and displayed--some for the dura-tion of the Fair.

Creative Challenges
Creative challenges require pre-entry online. Projects in which an art kit is mailed to the child require an entry fee. Blue Ribbon Kids are not eligible for cash awards.

Single-Day Creative Activities
Single-day creative activities offer a fun opportunity to participate in the OC Fair, in a timeframe younger chil-dren can understand. What a great way to experience the OC Fair: bring your project with you and get a rib-bon--all in the same day!

Step 3: Review the Youth Competition Guide

Juniors (ages 9-12)
OC Fair Junior exhibitors are actively exploring new in-terest and mastering physical skills. Junior exhibitors are our first age group to have their projects judged in a competition.

Judging
Juniors’ entries are judged using the Danish System: Entries are scored on their merit and are placed Blue, Red, White, etc.. The Danish System makes participa-tion at the OC Fair a learning experience, because ex-hibitors receive judges’ feedback. Junior exhibitors are eligible for cash awards, and projects meriting blue rib-bons compete against each other for Best of Class, Best of Show or Special Awards.

Competitions
There are many competitions and creative challenges offered to Juniors exhibitors, and all entries remain on display throughout the Fair. All Junior competitions re-quire pre-entry online and require an entry fee.

Single-Day Contests
Juniors may also compete in single-day contests and creative activities, so if you forgot to enter online, or didn’t have a large project planned, no problem! Check the categories: You can still bring your project with you and get a ribbon-all in the same day!

Step 3: Review the Youth Competition Guide
